Meet and greet with Telford council leader set for Newport community café.

The leader of Telford & Wrekin Council is hosting a meet and greet in Newport next week.

On Wednesday, June 28, Councillor Shaun Davies will be at The Hub Cafe, meeting residents and answering their questions. People can also bring along their ideas or discuss any concerns about key issues in their area :-

Councillor Davies said: “A big thank you to everyone who tuned in or watched back my Facebook live event last week. This was my first question and answer session in a little while and it was great to be back talking to residents about the things which are so important to them.

“As always, I am keen to get out and about across our borough too. The Hub Café is one of my favourite places in Newport and I’m looking really looking forward to visiting next week to talk to people face to face.

“I will be answering questions, but I am really keen to hear feedback and new ideas too which could help shape the services we offer.”

Short tour of Newport Cottage Care grounds and history.

You are welcome to attend our free event on Tuesday 27 June 2023 at 7.30 pm, for a short tour of the Cottage Care Centre, grounds and history, given by Chairman Dr Nick Tindall & President Eva Allen.  The tour will include a preview of the new Memorial Garden (to be officially opened on 4th July).  The new garden has been created to remember the late Margaret Woodcock who, over a period of 20 years plus, devoted much of her time to help the Centre to provide its range of care services to the community.  Please join us at the Newport Civic Society for an evening and learn about the important work of the Cottage Care Trust and its fundraising programmes – tea & coffee available; plenty of car parking on site.

T&WC BOROUGH ELECTIONS 4TH MAY 2023 -YOUR CHANCE TO BE HEARD.

Newport Civic Society have invited representatives of the local political parties plus ‘independents’ seeking to become borough councillors for Newport at the elections on 4th May 2023,to an informal ‘Hustings evening’ to be held on Tuesday 21st March 2023. Residents will have the opportunity to meet local politicians face-to-face and raise questions on Newport issues.

The ‘hustings’ will take place on Tuesday 21st March 2023, commencing at 7.30 pm in The Pavilion at Newport Cricket Club, Audley Ave, Newport TF10 7DP. Free admission. Car parking is available on site next to The Pavilion.

Shhhhhh ….. Something stirred out there ……… ITS A RURAL REVOLUTION !!!!

Wojtek Behnke – Aqualate Estate’s Manager, and descendent of the Boughey family, will be talking about his vision for the estate with minimal damage to native flora and fauna. However,and more importantly, he will be informing us about a number of ways in which he is transforming the approach to farming and land management on the estate.At the leading edge of thinking and currently experimental he will explain the need for traditional farming methods to change with eco-friendly, yet economically viable, being the watchwords.

“SAVING £ AND SAVING THE PLANET”

We are all feeling the impact of soaring fuel prices and hyper inflation – well perhaps some of the solutions lie in our own hands ! Newport Civic Society are having a joint meeting with “SUSTAINABLE NEWPORT” to hear about ways in which we can all save money. Many actions are eco-friendly hence ,if implemented, will make a contribution to saving the planet – every little bit helps !
The meeting will be a short presentation followed by an interactive session where ideas/tips from the audience will be discussed and welcomed. All this will take place in the convivial atmosphere of The Pavilion at Newport Cricket Club [turn the heating down at home for a couple of hours] – Free admission – the Bar is open but not free.
