In the UK Alzheimer’s disease affects 1 in 3 over 65s and is now the main cause of death for women and the 3rd for men. Its impact is devastating on families and the need for more research into its causes is overwhelming.
Alzheimer’s Research UK is the leading dementia research charity, founded 1992: its mission is “to find a life-changing treatment by 2025”
Katie Foster chairs the official Alzheimer’s Research UK Shropshire Fundraising Group and will give a quick insight into the latest research findings and initiatives and how you can help and be involved.
She’ll also be bringing something suitably festive and bubbly for the fundraising raffle – the proceeds of which will be shared between the two charities!
In addition, Phil Gillam will be giving an overview of the Alzheimer’s Society’s project to develop Newport as a dementia-friendly town, shedding light on what a Dementia Action Alliance is all about, and explaining how the local community will be at the heart of sustaining dementia-friendly actions and attitudes.
Newport Civic Society will be hosting the event which takes place on Tuesday 28th November 2017 at 7.30 pm in St Andrew’s Church Hall, Church Aston TF10 9JG.
Everyone is welcome to attend. A small charge of £2 is made for non-members to cover hall costs & refreshments.
