Cllr Lee Carter, Cabinet Member for Finance, Partnerships and Commercial Services at Telford & Wrekin Council, who will speak on “The Challenges Facing Local Authorities”

“This is a period when all local authorities are experiencing severe pressures on their budgets at the same time as growing demands on services. We are looking forward to listening to Cllr Lee Carter and how he sees Telford & Wrekin Council’s response to such challenges now and in the future, with particular reference to how Newport and district fits into the picture” – commented David Parker, Chairman of the Newport Society, which is a member of Civic Voice, the national movement which aims to ‘make places more attractive, enjoyable and distinctive and promote civic pride’. There will be a Q & A session after Cllr Carter’s talk.
The event takes place on Tuesday June 28 at 7.30pm in St Andrew’s Church Hall, Church Aston. Everyone is welcome to attend
Lee Carter is the former Chairman and Managing Director of AFC Telford United, having led the campaign to resurrect it as a community-owned football club in 2004.
He became Chairman of AFC Telford United at the age of 26, and led the development of the club from a start-up business to a fully functioning successful Social Enterprise through growing membership, extensive engagement with the local community and excellent partnership working. He has lived and worked most of his life in Telford and was educated at Ercall Wood School and New College in Telford. He graduated from Sunderland University in 2001.
Lee was made an Honorary Freeman of the Borough of Telford and Wrekin in 2005.
In 2014 he was elected to Wellington Town Council for College Ward and in 2015 clinched the Telford & Wrekin Borough seat for the same ward with a substantial majority. He was immediately selected to join the Cabinet where he served as Cabinet Member for Finance and Service Delivery. In his first year he oversaw one of the most extensive budget consultations ever held with the local Community.
