Civic Voice- Helping to make ‘better places’ -meeting 26th March 2019.

The Newport & District Civic Society will hold their March meeting on the 26th when the subject will be ‘Civic Voice; Helping to make better places’. This talk will be given by Professor David Evans who is a member of the Civic Voice board and serves on their Governance committee as well as acting as the lead trustee for the Larger Civic Societies group.
Civic Voice as a national organisation representing the Civic movement is now part of the Governments ‘Building Better Commission’ and is one of the leading partners in this recently announced project. Of significant relevance to Newport will be how other Civic Societies have influenced major housing developments by being involved in the initial planning process rather than just commenting on plans once they are published for public consultation.
The focus of Civic Voice over the last few years has been ‘Conservation Areas’, how do you make the most of this heritage, so the talk will revolve around how Civic Voice is promoting the need for local borough councils to maintain the Conservation Areas review process by using local community groups to assist in the process. Newport Civic Society is working in conjunction with the Newport History Society and Telford & Wrekin’s conservation officers on completing a long overdue review of the existing Newport Conservation Area.
Everyone is welcome, the presentation will be held on – Tuesday 26th March 2019, 7.30pm in St. Andrews Church Hall, Church Aston TF10 9JG.
A small charge of £2 is made for non-members to cover hall costs and refreshments.
